SUSAN F. GIBRALTER received her B.A. degree magna cum laude in 1973 from Mount Holyoke College and her J. D. degree cum laude in 1976 from Brooklyn Law School. After serving as law clerk to the Honorable Jacob Mishler, then Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, she worked in the litigation department of Kramer, Levin, Nessin, Kamin & Soll. From 1988 to 1998, while raising her children, she served as a part-time associate at Oxman Natale Friendman Geiger & Tuilis, P.C., a Westchester-based law firm, where she specialized in trusts and estates, including planning, administration, and estate litigation, and handled the firm’s appellate practice and guardianship matters. Among the complex estate litigations she handled was the Estate of Thomas Carvel when she was given full responsibility for work performed as Guardian ad Litem for Agnes Carvel, widow of Thomas Carvel.
In 1998, she joined the firm as a full time associate and in 2003 became a member of the firm. While Ms. Gibralter continues to practice in the area of estate planning, she specializes in commercial real estate transactions, including leasing of both retail and office space throughout the County, and in general business transactions such as purchases and sales of small businesses and medical practices. She also handles all of the firm’s prenuptial agreements and continues her work in the guardianship area.
Ms. Gibralter is a member of the New York State Bar Association, having served as a member and later as Vice Chair of the NYSBA’s Committee for Attorney Professionalism for over seven years. During her tenure on this Committee she launched and co-ordinated the Committee’s monthly column in the NYSBA’s Journal entitled the Attorney Professionalism Forum and also served as one of its contributing authors. Ms. Gibralter also was appointed a member of the NYSBA’s Special Committee on Law Practice Continuity which was created to address the problems of solo practitioners in times of transition and in this capacity she substantially contributed to the “Planning Ahead Guide” which now serves as a popular resource tool for solo practitioners throughout the State. She is a member and former Board member of the Westchester County Bar Association and in 2005 was appointed chair of the WCBA Committee on Law Practice Continuity. She has served as a speaker and moderater at several CLE programs both on behalf of the Westchester County Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association.
